About The Area

Clutton is a semi-rural village community of approximately 1500 people. It is conveniently situated just off the A37 about 10 miles from Bristol and Bath in the old county of Somerset, now part of Bath and North East Somerset. The nearest town, 5 miles away, is Midsomer Norton. Chew Valley Lake is close by and a little further away are the limestone Mendip Hills, Cheddar Gorge and the historic city of Wells.

The village is quite compact with a primary school, the Railway and Warwick Arms pubs, butchers, post office, St Augustine’s Church and a popular social club alongside the village hall. At the top of Clutton Hill is the Hunters Rest pub with its miniature railway and lake.

The village caters well for the young and old. ‘The Cabin’ has a Youth Club for 8 to 13 year olds, a playgroup and an after school club. Youngsters can also join Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides. Adults can play skittles – there are 13 skittles teams locally. There are numerous Clubs and Societies such as the Historical Society and the Horticultural Society which organizes the two village shows. The Bridge Club and the bell ringers are always keen for new members. Sport is well represented with the Football Club behind the Warwick Arms and the Cricket Club on the Stowey road.
