    Butcher

Does anyone know anything about Pharoah Butcher born 1867?
I am e-mailing from New Zealand, trying to trace my great grandmother Mary Chapman nee Bush.

She, as far as I can tell so far, was born in Clutton in 1865, and married Francis Chapman in 1885, in Ubley. They went on to have 13 children, one of which was my Grandmother, (deceased)who emigrated to NZ.

In the 1881 census, she was a general servant in the household of a Henry Sheppard, Merton.

The family has very little information on her, only that she was illegitimate, father unknown.

I am sure that my mother must still have a lot of cousins in the area!

Is she on any-one’s family tree? Any information would be very much appreciated.

    Thank-you for your time,

    Kind regards,

    Teresa Neilson-Watt

    Brown

I’m trying to trace my husband’s family tree. His father was Lionel Lloyd George Brown, born 26 September 1914. His birth was registered in Clutton, sub district of Midsomer Norton for the registration district of Norton Radstock. He was the youngest son of a large family – one of his sisters married into the Love family. If anyone can be of assistance in helping to trace relatives, I and my husband (name Lionel James, called Jim)would be very grateful.

Thank you for asking people to look for my husband’s family – I am led to believe that they did in fact reside in the Village of Chilcompton – my husband’s gradfather was George Brown (Farmer) – and he thinks one of his Aunts was named Ginny – I hope this info helps with the search. Thank you in anticipation of a result.

Since posting my last message I have had a limited success in finding records of my husband’s ancesters. His father Lionel Lloyd George Brown was the youngest of a large family and was born in Chilcompton in 1914. His father was Robert Brown and his mother Ellen Jane House, and Robert’s occupation was Coal Hewer (Miner). His father was Isaac Brown, born in Ston Easton he was a butcher, as was his father before him, also called Isaac. It appears that all of the family down the ages were either butchers or miners with some siblings working on the land as farm labourers. All, it seems were born in the administrative parish of Clutton, mainly in Ston Easton with the exception of Robert who moved to Chilcompton to work and raise his family.

My father-in-law (Lionel L.G.Brown) was a railway guard who moved to Birmingham where he met his wife Ethel and raised two children.
My husband and his sister Janet.

Lionel’s siblings that I know of are; Ada May Brown; William E Brown; Albert H Brown; Alfred G Brown; Alice E L Brown; and possibly an Evelyn.

What I would like is for any surviving relatives of the above Aunts/Uncles of my husband’s to help me fill in the missing links.

Lionel always said he was a 7th son, but I am having difficulty in finding siblings born after the 1901 census. However, I will keep looking.

I am also given to understand that one of his sisters married into the Love family.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this.

    Brodribb

Visited St Augustine’s yesterday to try to trace the Brodribb family. My grandmother was Lilian Maud Brodribb who was the daughter of George Thomas Brodribb, born in Stanton Wick, Somerset, circa 1847. Am having difficulty tracing his ancestors. On his marriage certificate his father is shown as Frederick Brodribb but cannot find him on any census records.

There was a George Broadrib shown on the 1851 census(aged 4 yrs) as the son of William F. Broadrib (born at Stowey c. 1811) then living at Bloomfield, Timsbury (Retailer of Beer) and wondered whether this might be William Frederick Broadrib and his wife was Ann.

Can anyone throw any light on this for me?
