I’m descended from Reuben Cook, the son of Martha Cook and James Lane. According to the records on your web site Reuben was christened in 1823, with Martha and James Lane marrying in 1824. Reuben moved to Dudley, Worcs, and married Caroline Hickman in 1846. I’m interested in learning more about MArtha Cook and James Lane, I can’t find any reference to the couple in the 1841 or 1851 census, or for Reuben in the 1841 census. As both MArtha and James were born in Clutton I am hoping that someone will know something.

I would like to contact descendants of Percy Henry Collins, (c.1876-1958) butcher/miller and his wife Violet (1874-1965), who lived at Paulton. I know they had two daughters, Ada Gertrude Collins (born 1899) and Katie Grace Collins (born 1901), possibly other children. Gertrude was Mrs Gillingham, Katie was Mrs Lewis.
Would love to contact this family, my father’s uncle and aunt and cousins.

My paternal grandmother came from Clutton. I know very little about her other than her family were involved in a horrific house fire in which her mother and some of her siblings died.I assume this was in Clutton. I know no more. She was born in 1892 and married another Clutton man Reginald Leakey (b 1893) and they moved to South Wales where my father and I was born. I would be grateful for any information since I am very sketchy about her side of the family, though do have a reasonable idea about the Leakey side. Any help in solving this mystery would be appreciated. Historic records of the fire in particular would be of great interest. Christine Chapman (parris@ozemail.com.au)

I am currently writing a family history for a family by the name of Cornish. From his Death Certificate, Herbert Henry Cornish, a Stone Mason and Bricklayer, died at Cambrook House, Clutton, on the 2nd of April 1939, aged 63. If you could give me any information about the house or its location, I should be most grateful.Herbert was born at Chickwell Farm, Wellow. His father died when he was only 9 years old. Later he left home to work as a miner in South wales after which he joined the army. As to why he was living in Clutton, we have no idea, but perhaps the address may produce a clue. The informant on the death certificate was F.G.Howes, occupier, Cambrook House

    Chapman
I am e-mailing from New Zealand, trying to trace my great grandmother Mary Chapman nee Bush.

She, as far as I can tell so far, was born in Clutton in 1865, and married Francis Chapman in 1885, in Ubley. They went on to have 13 children, one of which was my Grandmother, (deceased)who emigrated to NZ.

In the 1881 census, she was a general servant in the household of a Henry Sheppard, Merton.

The family has very little information on her, only that she was illegitimate, father unknown.

I am sure that my mother must still have a lot of cousins in the area!

Is she on any-one’s family tree? Any information would be very much appreciated.

    Thank-you for your time,

    Kind regards,

    Teresa Neilson-Watt

    Carter
We have several people with loose connections to our family tree from CLUTTON. Our interest interest is in the Carter family mainly of Paulton. Trying to locate one, I was interested to find that Josiah Carter had been the Parish Clerk during the 1830s and wonder if he is part of the extended family. Do you have any information that could help me find his birth. The 1841 census indicates a birth about 1794.
    Many thanks

We visited Clutton in June, unfortunately the church was locked, couldnt see a keyholder notice, but was able to wander round the churchyard and the village, Picturing my ancestors in the village and what it was like going back to 1612.

I was born in Bristol, now live in Lincolnshire, my 3 x Gt Grandfather was George COOK, who lived and died in Bristol, after years of searching, found he was born in Clutton in 1769, s/o William COOK and Mary GREEN.
    Going backwards in time
    5 x William b 1707, he married Leah HOLBROOKE.
6 x Joseph who married Martha abt 1700.
7 x William who married Mary GERRARD.
8 x William who died 1719 he married Ann Artulus POOLE,
    9 x William b abt 1612 who married Dorothy.

I have information that I am descended from a Henry Carter of Clutton. The information I have is that he was born in Clutton in 1827. This was noted on his burial record from 1862, in Auckland NZ, where he emigrated.

I understand that there was a family of Carters in the Clutton / Paulton area and would be very interested to hear if anyone had any links.

    Many thanks
