My family came from the Clutton/Timsbury area. I am trying to locate my fathers sister. My father was James Edward Maggs born 1919, known as Ted, who was a plumber before going into the army during the 2nd world war. His parents were William and Lucy Caroline (nee Elliott) married in 1907. He had a sister but I know nothing about her. I would love to find out more about her

I am trying to trace my paternal grandmothers family and parents. They were as far as I know both called Matthews before they married although it was rumoured that her father was welsh and had moved to somerset as a miner. He was called Henry Matthews and was born in 1856 or there abouts. He married Annie Matthews who was born in 1870 and I believe she came from Somerset and belonged to some small house church. I have only managed to trace the births of the older children who were born at or around Clutton- Lily Lavinia – 1899. Annie Elizabeth -1900.Bertha Maude- 1904 (my paternal grandmother) I have no more information does anyone know of my ancestors. Please contact.

My grandmother’s name was Gladys Mansfield, maiden name Crosse. She received the MBE for services to Somerset during the World Wars He was certainly there when my father was born in 1911. Do Mr and Mrs Shepherd still live in the old Rectory?

    Naish
I am interested in tracing members of the Jacob Naish (b about 1744) who married Lydia Wall (b about 1745), married at Clutton 1761. About six children. They left Clutton in the mid 1820s. They were basket makers. Jacob’s son, Jacob, married Martha Rogers in about 1787.One of these Jacobs had a cousin(?) Jacob Naish who married Ann Rogers possible sister of Martha.
I am trying to sort out which Jacob Naish was the basket maker who departed Clutton for Bristol. Any information would be appreciated. I have been unable to find a Naish gravestone in the Clutton cemetery.
    Many thanks.

    Mogg
On the 1841 census James Mogg was living at Clutton (Hill) aged 40 and was a coalminer. His wife was Ann (38) and children John (20), Charles (17), George (15) and Ann(13). Charles is my great-great grandfather and in 1851 was living in Cossington. I am unable to trace James Mogg forward. It has been suggested he could have moved to Wales. I visited your churchyard yesterday and found plenty of MAGGS! I have spotted a Rebecca Mogg who is a Clutton Jogger so maybe there are Mogg’s still living in Clutton. I would be pleased to hear from anyone with information.

I am looking for further information regarding the parents of John Morris born 1840 in Clutton. John married a Frances Emily Burden in the 1st Qtr 1861, possibly in St Augustines Church. I think John’s Dad was called William. If it’s the correct William showing on the 1851 census as born in Nailsea. Born c1793. He is not showing on the 1881 census, so presumed he died in the past 10 years. The 1871 shows William as a Retired Grocer. Was this in Clutton. The census shows Williams wife a Elizabeth ??? born around c1800 in Midsomer Norton

    Any help would be appreciated.

Where might I find information about a family named Osborne who lived in Clutton around 1891. I believe one of my wife’s great-aunts was born there. Her name was Flora Mary Osborne. Her father was Lester William Osborne, who was born in Islington, London. They moved to Bath sometime in the 1890s. I live in Canada and would greatly appreciate any assistance with my search. Hello all,
My name is Maree. My ancestors are also James Maggs and Harriet Banfield. Through my research, I have found that James had a brother John born 1818, a sister born 1820 and another sister Martha born 1822. As far as I can tell, James is the only one who migrated to Australia. I am interested in finding any information about the Maggs family from Clutton. I live in Melbourne, Australia and am planning a trip to the UK next June, with a special visit to Clutton planned. I would be grateful for any help, suggestions or advice. Many thanks.
