Rogers
I’m searching for any information on Clara ROGERS born ca 1843 in Clutton(according to census pages).
She married Thomas PRICE from Oldbury in Worcestershire/Staffordshire and they have 9 children while they are living in Abertillery, South Wales.
My problems: I cannot find a marriage for Thomas and Clara – did they marry in Wales, or Oldbury or Somerset, and in any case where did they meet? There are Rogers from Somerset in both Oldbury and Abertillery, but none with a Clara on the 1851 census. Because I can’t get a marriage cert I can’t find out Clara’s father’s name and therefore can’t get a birth certificate etc.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks Helen
Sage
I would appeciate any help with tracing a relative called Eliza Sage, born in Clutton, Somerset about 1827. The family moved to Aberyschan, Monmouthshire some time before 1850. Eliza married a George Jones of Aberyschan and they later moved to Wigan, Lancashire. Any details of the Sage family of Clutton or the district would be very welcome. Please contact Marlene

Ann SHORE, born c. 1792, possibly Littleton, Somerset.

Rogers
I’m searching for the baptism of Charles Rogers, born about 1832/3 in Clutton; father definitely John, mother possibly Rosanna nee Moor; she died in the 1830s and John remarried to Martha Ford in 1842. The family moved to Oldbury, Worcs between 1843 and 1851. Have checked the C of E PRs without success; suspect that they were Methodists. Any ideas welcome!

Salvage/Salvidge
I am trying to trace the family of Thomas Salvage/Salvidge,(1883)(my grandfather) whose father was William and mother maybe Catherine or Caroline. According to a birth cert I have he was born in Clutton. I know they came from Chewton Mendip area and much earlier from Wales. Thomas had brothers George and Jack/John. William (the father) was supposed to have been a methodist lay preacher. They were all miners – anybody know anything? Please contact Dianne Smart.

Sage
I was born in London in 1939 but at some stage during the war I was sent off to start school at Clutton in the village where my father Gilbert Sage was born in 1905.
His father was John James Sage b. 1864 in Woolley who served in the 16th Regiment of Lancers in India and South Africa before becoming the coachman/gardener for the Rev Hippisley, Rector of Cameley followes by the job of village postman.
His father was James Henry Sage who was born in 1840 out of wedlock in West Harptree to Sarah Sage b.1822 the daughter of Samuel and Martha Sage. Samuel was born in 1785 at West Harptree, his father Joseph in 1755 at Clutton. Joseph’s father was Henry Sage b.1729 and his mother was Martha (nee Adams) b 1732, both born in Clutton.
Henry’s father was also called Henry and was born in 1711 at Cameley but I have no record of a marriage or any other children. His father was also called Henry b 1682 in Cameley and he married Hannah Fear b abt 1693 also in Cameley.
Henry’s father was John Sage b 1846 who married Jane b 1648 both of them born in Cameley. John’s father was another Samuel Sage b 1627 in Cameley who married Avis on 27 April 1648. Samuel’s father was another John Sage b 1601 in Cameley who married Susan in 1619,
I should be very pleased to hear from anyone who has any more information on my family particularly on Henry Sage b 1711 and any Sages born before 1601.
Sage
I have been unable to find the baptism of William Sage born in Temple Cloud about 1780 (parents unknown) trade said to be a Thatcher. William married Rachel Stinton born about 1780 in Swell (parents unknown). They married in Chiselborough 13 February 1803 by banns whilst being of West Chinnock, their son William Stinton Sage was born in Drayton 23 Nov 1806. Any information would be of interest especially regarding a baptism or parents. Would Temple Cloud residents at that time have used the parish church at Clutton or Cameley? Although Rachel Stinton was born in Swell some distance away her baptism also is not recorded in her home parish. I would be interested to hear from anyone with these people in their family history.

Sage
Would appreciate any help at all in tracing my ancestry. All I can find so far is a William Sage born in 1829 in Stanton Wick. He is showing on the 1841 Census as being 12 years old and working at Utcome Farm in the district of Clutton and Keynsham. Possibly the farm may have been swallowed up by other farms to create a larger one. Perhaps someone out there could help, please ?
We do know that he went North to Bristol and by 1851 was married and working in Bristol as a tailor

Please email me at: karensdomain@googlemail.com
Kind Regards,

Hello Karen,
I don’t know if anyone has already helped you with your RUDDLE query.
The only mention of anyone of this name in the Clutton PR’s is that of a
burial on the 04 Jul 1914 of a Mary Ann RUDDLE of Clutton, aged 82 years.
Although there is a slight discrepancy in birth dates could this be the
Mary Ann wife of H. RUDDLE (born Biddestone Wilts) who appears in the 1881
Census together with their daughter Kate RUDDLE. (born Corsham).
According to the Bath BMD http://www.bathbmd.org.uk/ the death of a Henry
John RUDDLE aged 80 year was registered at the Harptree District Reg.
Office.
I hope this helps you a little. If you wish – contact me direct at
Maggieperkins@puddingstone.freeserve. Maggie
Thanks Maggie. I have sent you an email.

William Smith born circa 1797 Walcot, Bath
Hester, possibly Young, Smith B circa 1795 West Kington,Wiltshire
John Smith 1825 Bath
Charles Smith 1828 Bath
William Smith and his wife Hester were possibly living in Clutton from 1851. Previously they were in Walcot, Bath where William was a butcher. His sons Charles and John were also butchers. William’s wife Hester died in Mar 1855 in Clutton. I cannot find William in the 1861 census in Bath or Clutton. Neither can I find his death.
There was an elder son James, who also became a butcher, he moved to Eglwysilan, Glamorganshire, Wales around 1839.
If anyone has any knowledge of this Smith family of butchers I would be very pleased to hear from you,
Thank you, pallmall
PS I have just found 2 deaths for a William Smith in Clutton in Free BMD Mar and Jun 1851. William and Hester are both on the 1851 census as living in Margaret’s Hill, Walcot, Bath.
If these deaths are correct why were they buried in Clutton?
